ISG has won a £6.1 million deal to refurbish and extend a leisure centre in South Wales.

The contractor will deliver the multi-phased project at Monmouth Leisure Centre on behalf of Alliance Leisure, marking its 18th contract award from the leisure provider.

The refurbished leisure centre will retain the existing squash courts and house a toning suite, group cycling studio, exercise studio and 65-station gym, which is scheduled to open to the public next year during summer.

The second stage of the project will see a new 25-metre, five-lane pool created, along with a village change and health suite including a sauna, steam room and spa bath. This is scheduled to open in winter 2018. In addition, a temporary sports hall will be built to allow the continued use of sporting facilities while work is carried out.

Daniel Leigh, project manager at ISG, said: "Our continued partnership with Alliance Leisure is responsible for transforming and revitalising many existing local authority leisure amenities to a standard that now rivals facilities in the private sector.

"The framework delivery model brings major efficiencies to the build process, encouraging early stakeholder collaboration and the development of innovative solutions to reduce project timescales and deliver best value."
