A milestone has been reached on a £6.1 million school building project in Central Bedfordshire.

Modular units, which weigh between five and seven tonnes, have been craned into place by Morgan Sindall to form the base around which the new Fairfield Lower School is being built.

The single-storey lower school will accommodate 300 pupils and feature 10 classrooms, offices, a kitchen and a library once completed. Other highlights include a nursery provision, which will accommodate an additional 30 children aged between three and four.

In addition, Morgan Sindall has built a 180 sq.m main hall which will be used by the local community outside of school hours, while external works have included a an amphitheatre style seating area, Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), play area for nursery children and a Football Association-spec sports pitch for use between the school and local community.

Neil Franklin, area director for Morgan Sindall, said: "It was great to have the opportunity to invite our customers to site and give them a first-hand look at how work is progressing on this important project. Seeing the modular units getting craned into place is an exciting point in the schedule of the build and it was a very enjoyable morning experiencing the moment with our guests."
