Galliford Try is to begin a £12 million water network improvement scheme in Rotherham.

The 14-month project involves building a new inlet works and installing a new treatment process at the Bolton Upon Dearne Waste water Treatment Works (WwTW) to the south east of the town.

The scheme will improve the quality of water being released back into the River Dearne, bringing about significant environmental benefits to the area.

Over the next two weeks, Galliford Try will start setting up a site compound which will include a number of site cabins and welfare facilities.

Yorkshire Water spokesperson John Bond said: "This is key project to ensure we further improve river quality in South Yorkshire and bring about significant improvements to the local environment.

"The site is accessed via a small track and although we'll do everything we can to minimise disruption, local residents may notice an increase in traffic in the area. We'd ask that people take additional care when driving or crossing roads and assure customers that we'll keep them updated as the scheme progresses."
