More than 2,500 additional affordable homes have been built across Wales this year, according to the Welsh Government.

A total of 2,547 units were delivered by local authorities in 2016/17, an increase of 6% compared with the previous year.

Welsh Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) made the largest contribution to additional affordable housing, delivering 93% of all additional housing provision over the past year (2,378 units).

In addition, there was a 3% rise in the number of affordable units being delivered with capital grant funding (1,810 units), while the number delivered without capital grant funding was up by 16% to 737 units.

The figures also exclude 1,864 homes that were delivered via Help to Buy-Wales.

Minister for Housing and Regeneration, Rebecca Evans, said: "Ensuring that people have a safe, warm and secure home is one of our key priorities. I am committed to increasing the housing supply in Wales and have an ambitious target of building 20,000 affordable homes during this term of government."
