Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) has started work on a £3.8 million water network improvement project in Yorkshire.

The engineering specialists are laying a new pipeline from Hillam Waste water Treatment Works (WwTW), located off Stocking Lane, to Sutton WwTW. The scheme will take around a year to complete.

Yorkshire Water will also build some additional storage and a new sewage pumping station (SPS), then the works at Hillam will eventually be decommissioned.

Phase one involves building the new SPS and additional storage in the field behind the current treatment works. Phase two, which will begin in the new year, will be to lay the new pipeline to Sutton WwTW which is all in private land and fields. The third phase will see Hillam WwTW decommissioned.

Andrew McKinley, Yorkshire Water Project Manager, said: "Local residents may notice additional traffic and personnel in the area during the project but please be assured we'll do everything we can to keep disturbance to a minimum.

"Deliveries will arrive to the site via the A63 and Austfield Lane to avoid coming through Hillam village.

"We'll keep local residents and stakeholders updated throughout the work, particularly with dates when we'll begin to lay the new pipeline and its location."
