Laing O'Rourke's Chairman, Sir John Parker, has been appointed as the lead Non-Executive Director for the Cabinet Office.

Sir John has vast industry experience in various industries and will take up his new role on Wednesday, 15 November.

As well as being Chairman at Laing O'Rourke, he is currently Chairman of Pennon group as well as holding non-executive director roles at Carnival Corporation and Airbus.

He previously chaired National Grid plc and the Court of the Bank of England, including stepping down as Chairman from Anglo American after more than eight years on 31 October this year.

Sir John has also held senior non-executive roles at British Gas, the British Coal Corporation and the Industrial Development Board of Northern Ireland.

First Secretary of State and Minister for the Cabinet Office, Damian Green, said Sir John brings "significant experience" from a number of businesses to his new role, "as well as a passion for inclusion and diversity".

"His commercial expertise and experience of driving reform will be of huge benefit to the department and I look forward to working with him," he said.

Speaking on his new role, Sir John said: "I am honoured to accept this appointment and look forward to endeavouring to add value in the role."
