Construction Work Underway On £350m Llanfrechfa Hospital

Construction work is underway on a new £350 million hospital at Llanfrechfa, Wales.

In July this year, contracts were signed between Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and Laing O'Rourke to begin building the new 471-bed hospital in Cwmbran. The facility is scheduled to open for patients by spring 2021.

The development will provide complex specialist and critical care treatment for over 600,000 people in South-East Wales, and includes a 24 hour acute assessment unit and emergency department.

It will deal with all major emergencies, and will treat and care for those needing complex emergency or critical care. In addition, the hospital will be home to more than 40 specialist services and will have a helipad for patients who need to arrive by air ambulance.

Our team brings a wealth of experience in innovative healthcare construction and in engineering expertise. We are absolutely focused on working in partnership with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to deliver a hospital that the people of south Wales will be proud of."

Judith Paget, Chief Executive of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board said: "This is an exciting day for everyone who lives in our local communities and also for our staff who have been looking forward to this hospital development as part of our Clinical Futures programme."
