Plans Approved For New £50m Student Accommodation In Manchester

Plans have been approved to build a new £50 million student accommodation development in Manchester.

The 573-bed property will be developed at a site in Wakefield Street closed to both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Unite Students said the building will be open for students starting university in 2020.

Designed by architecture practice Simpson Haugh, the site at 1 - 5 New Wakefield Street comprises of two buildings which will be demolished to make way for the new 35-storey development.

The planning consent takes the total development pipeline to be delivered by Unite Students over the next three years to 6,500 beds.

Richard Simpson, Group Property Director of Unite Students said: "Manchester has the largest student population in the UK after London with two high quality Universities, making it a strong market for Unite Students. We are very proud to build on our presence in such a fantastic city."
