Work Starts On Primary School Expansion And Refurb In Hampshire

Construction work has started to extend and refurbish a primary school in Havant, Hampshire.

The £3 million contract at the Federation of Trosnant Schools on Stockheath Lane is being delivered by Beard and completion is scheduled for autumn next year.

The 420-place school is being expanded to create an additional 210 pupil places. A new wing will be built for the Junior School at the south of the site with four new classrooms, a library and a group room for special educational needs (SEN) activities.

In addition, an energy-efficient junior extension designed by the County Council's Property Services team will feature photovoltaic solar panels on the roof.

Elsewhere, Beard will build an extension to the Infant's School at the north of the site, featuring a new purpose-built classroom and a SEN group room for the Infant School. The former Children's Centre, staff rooms, offices and reception area are currently being refurbished as early enabling works to facilitate the phasing of the main works.

The scheme will also include enhancement work to the surrounding external areas, providing additional parking spaces, bike and scooter sheltered storage, improved play areas and outside landscaping.

Gareth Phillips, Beard Contracts Manager, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this much-needed scheme which will help address the high demand for school places in the area.

"Our project team is very experienced in working in 'live' environments and the construction works have been carefully planned with the schools and the Council to minimise disruption to classes. We are pleased to be working with Hampshire County Council on this important scheme and look forward to seeing these exciting new facilities take shape."
