A public consultation has been launched over plans to build a new £58 million City Hub campus development for Nottingham College.
The new six-storey facility will provide high quality college and community facilities, along with a new business hub to encourage new business start-ups. Other features include a new performing arts centre, student retail space, café and training restaurant and bar.
Designed by architects Bond Bryan, the site will offer a new green space as a local community facility and the design of the public realm aspects of the site are being led by Nottingham City Council, in collaboration with local residents and the wider community
In addition, the project forms part of the £250m Southern Gateway regeneration scheme, which includes redeveloping the intu Broadmarsh Centre, the rebuild of the Broadmarsh bus station and car park, as well as the remodelling of road and pedestrian routes in the area
Local residents are now being invited to submit their views on the proposals either online of at one of a series of drop-in events being held at Nottingham Contemporary between 10.30am – 12 noon or 2pm – 5pm on 10 November.
John van de Laarschot, Nottingham College Chief Executive said: "It is our aspiration to bring to Nottingham something truly iconic, something that does not simply fit the mould of a traditional college campus, but which provides a unique space in which business and education co-exist and the relationship between the two can be strengthened.
"The City Hub, and the services it will house, will provide real benefits to employers and students. When we put this Hub together with the College's plans for its other Centres for Excellence across the city, we will be one of the biggest and best-resourced training and skills institutions in the country."
Matt Hutton, Chief Architect on the project from Bond Bryan said: "The City Hub project has an ability to create an exciting destination for local businesses and education to mix, providing real benefit to skills and employment in the region. It is an exciting time for Nottingham and I'm extremely proud to be part of it."
