Residents in Leeds are being invited to submit their views over plans to build a new leisure centre and high school in the east of the city.
Separate consultation events will take place after the council's executive board previously approved in principle a recommendation that, subject to a public consultation and further investigative work, a new facility be developed on another part of the site which currently hosts the existing Fearnville Leisure Centre.
Following conclusion of the consultation and an assessment of the feedback, the local authority will then potentially move forward with the development of detailed designs and costings for the new facility.
If agreed, work could start on site as early as January 2019, with an estimated completion date of September 2020.
A meeting to discuss the school plans will be held between 5pm – 7pm on 30 October, while two meetings will be held to discuss proposals for the leisure and wellbeing centre from 11.30am – 1.30pm on 31 October and 6pm – 8pm on 02 November. Each event will be held at Fearnville Leisure Centre.
Cllr James Lewis said: "The important role that our leisure centres play in the day-to-day lives of so many residents and in communities across Leeds cannot be underestimated. It is for this reason that we are continually striving to provide facilities that are not only of a high-quality but also affordable to people of all ages.
"We are excited therefore to be moving forward with a public consultation around a potential new health and wellbeing centre opening in east Leeds. Situated on a new part of the existing Fearnville Leisure Centre, this facility would provide the people of east Leeds with a mix of modern and state-of-the-art facilities.
"We want to hear what local residents and users of Fearnville think of the proposal either via email or at one of our drop-in events. This feedback will be invaluable to us in shaping and moving forward with this project."
