Council To Discuss £1.4bn Croydon Town Centre Redevelopment Plans

Croydon Council is to decide next month whether to approve plans for a £1.4 billion redevelopment project in the town centre.

Proposals for the transformation of Whitgift Shopping Centre have been put forward by a joint venture (JV) between Westfield and Hammerson, the Croydon Partnership.

If approved, features will include 1.5 million sq ft of retail and leisure space including a major department store and a range of shops, new leisure facilities, new public realm and new car parking spaces. In addition, up to 1,000 new homes will be built, while the Centrale shopping centre will also be renovated.

Full construction works would start on site in 2018, with an expected opening date by 2021.

The council's planning committee will meet to discuss approving the plans on Tuesday, 14 November.
