Osborne has been appointed to build the new £1.6 million Mersey Bridge in Stockport.

The structure will provide a two-way link for buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians to and from the A6 to the interchange via Heaton Lane. Construction will start on site in 2018, with completion scheduled for 2019.

Being developed by Stockport Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), the Mersey Bridge is one of the latest transport investment projects to get off the ground in Stockport. The town is investing £1 billion in a range of projects to transform the borough's future.

Cllr Kate Butler said: "This is another big step forward in our commitment to improve transport in the town centre. By improving access into the bus station, the Mersey Bridge will make public transport easier to use for everyone."

John Dowsett, Managing Director - Infrastructure at Osborne, added: "Starting these works to build a bridge over the river Mersey in Stockport is highly significant for us.
