Work On £3.4m Water Infrastructure Upgrade In Selby Complete

Work on a £3.4 million water infrastructure upgrade project in Selby is now complete.

The scheme involved installing new innovative technology at Great Heck Water Treatment Works.

The project will result in water, which comes from a borehole supply, being disinfected by Ultra Violet light and receives a very small dose of Sodium Hypochlorite to make sure it is safe to drink.

Speaking during a site visit, Local MP Nigel Adams said: "High quality drinking water is something that is easy to take for granted. It was a pleasure to take a look behind the scenes and see the care and attention that is put into ensuring our tap water in Yorkshire is to the highest possible standard.

"Nearly 25% of the water in Yorkshire is provided from boreholes and this £3.4M pumping station and purification facility is a measure of the commitment to maintaining the highest possible standards for our tap water."
