Contractor Cablesheer is to start building 10 new council homes in Northfleet, Gravesham.
With planning permission secured for the scheme on Packham Road earlier this summer, construction is expected to get underway this autumn.
The year-long project will include a mix of six two-bedroom houses, three one-bedroom bungalows and one two-bed fully wheelchair accessible bungalow.
Cllr Anthony Pritchard, said: "We're looking at every opportunity we can to deliver new homes in the borough. Whether that be new developments, our holding hands scheme or other initiatives like refurbishing empty properties.
"We're not sitting back and waiting for housing associations and developers to increase the stock, we're being really proactive and pushing forward to deliver more homes for more of our residents in housing need.
"And what we're doing is matching everything we build against our housing list to ensure we're meeting demand and, most importantly, delivering the types of properties needed."
