Balfour Beatty has won a £10 million deal to extend a multi-storey car park in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

The company will develop a new five-storey building to the town centre's car park, providing an additional 502 parking spaces to the existing 680-space facility. Work is due to start this autumn and completion is scheduled for winter 2018.

As well as new additional parking spaces, other amenities will include a lift service, electric car charge points and extensive CCTV. Around 50 jobs will be created during the construction phase, as well as seven work placement opportunities and three training opportunities for apprentices and graduates.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) was employed during the design phase to visualise the completed structure and to demonstrate the operational running of the completed car park, while also improving logistics efficiency and workforce safety.

Jonathan Winter, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty's Regional South business, said: "I look forward to working alongside Chiltern District Council to deliver Amersham's multi-storey car park extension, providing much needed additional parking capacity for the local area and London commuters."

Cllr Mike Smith, Chiltern District Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "This represents a multi-million pound investment for Amersham and its surrounding communities at no cost to the local tax payer as the income from the charges will pay for the development over time."

The contract was procured through the Scape national civil engineering and infrastructure framework.
