Keepmoat Regeneration has started work on a new £8 million extra care housing development in Bristol.

The three-storey scheme is being developed on the former site of Bowmead Care Home. Completion is scheduled for summer 2018.

The Haberfield House Extra Care project will include 60 homes for older people featuring a mixture of one and two bedroom wheelchair-accessible flats for affordable rent. Residents will also benefit from communal facilities including a lounge, dining area, hobby room, garden and on-site care services.

Edward Rees, Regional Director for Keepmoat Regeneration, said: "It’s great to be breaking ground on this exciting project. The need for housing for the over 55’s is growing across the UK, so we’re delighted to be working with our partners to create these much-needed new homes for Bristol’s ageing population."

Anne Anketell, Chief Executive of Bristol Charities, said: "The ground breaking ceremony was an exciting culmination of several years intensive planning for this much-needed Extra Care Scheme. I am so happy that everyone was able to attend. It was a great day for Bristol Charities and it was inspiring to see the pride and enthusiasm of everyone involved with the project."
