The London Infrastructure Summit has been announced to take place on 14 September, bringing together experts from City Hall the London boroughs' transport chiefs and the business community to debate the "big questions and seek solutions".
Infrastructure is in the spotlight more than ever, with increasing calls for vital investment programmes nationwide. Proposals for greater devolution to city-regions and the urgency of keeping Britain competitive in the wake of Brexit are also pressing issues.
Crossrail 2 is high on the agenda, with the benefits and urgent need for the investment clear. The summit will explore funding models, as well as the joint role business and the public sector must play in getting Crossrail 2 moving.
Infrastructure not only keeps cities connected, it also unlocks housing and generates growth. The summit will cover the full spectrum of transport, housing and digital connectivity. Of course, with air pollution a concern for all and the London mayor driving his new environmental strategy, the summit will also be looking at how infrastructure can support sustainability.
Speakers at the summit include:
• Key figures from the mayoralty, including the deputy mayor for regeneration, planning and skills, Jules Pipe, the deputy mayor for transport, Valerie Shawcross and the deputy mayor for environment and energy, Shirley Rodrigues.
• Transport commissioner, Mike Brown, roads minister Jesse Norman MP, Network Rail chief executive, Mark Carne and Crossrail 2 managing director, Michèle Dix.
• Senior business leaders and commentators, including Tony Travers of the LSE, Barratt London, Cory Environmental, London Airports, Port of London Authority, Thames Water and UK Power Networks.
