Lincolnshire firm Specialist Surfacing has delivered a new 1km route next to Ennerdale Leisure Centre, providing a space for experienced amateur road-racing cyclists as well as newcomers.

Specialist Surfacing were selected by main contractor PBS Construction to deliver the bespoke surfacing works. Overall, more than 2,500 tonnes of asphalt were placed in three layers, with the final course completed in one run of 6m width using extension boxes on the paving machine to eliminate joints and provide a smooth surface.

Managing Director Scott Morse said: "As we saw with the many public road improvements made around Yorkshire in preparation for the Tour de France, the surfacing for cycle tracks must be precise and flawless and so we used laser controls for the paving machine and tracers following piano wire. The completed job was immaculate."
