New figures have revealed the UK's construction output fell by 1.3% in the three months to June.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data states despite a 1.1% rise in the first quarter, the decline was driven by falls in both all new work, and repair and maintenance (1.3% and 1.4% respectively).

On a month-on-month basis, output decreased by 0.1% in June, driven by a 1.1% fall in all repair and maintenance work.

However, output was still up 0.9% compared with June 2016, while a 5.1% increase in private housing helped to offset the fall in repair and maintenance.

Looking ahead, the estimate for construction growth in Q2 has been revised from -0.9% to -1.3%.
