Dyer & Butler is to begin a £10.6 million highway improvements programme in Hampshire.

The contractor will start it's 18-month programme of works on Monday, 07 August.

The improvements to and between Ringway, Crockford and Great Binfields roundabouts include:

• Widening the existing approach roads

• Widening of the roundabouts

• Installing traffic signals on the roundabouts

• Upgrading the existing pedestrian and cycle facilities

• Upgrading and increasing the capacity of the local drainage system

In addition, further works include measures to address the root cause of persistent localised flooding between the Crockford and Binfields roundabouts. The adjacent pond under the railway bridge will be widened and lined to improve its capacity and help reduce instances of future flooding.

Cllr Rob Humby said: "The A33 is a key strategic route in Basingstoke, providing a link between Basingstoke and Reading and access to two pivotal business parks - and during peak times travellers can get caught up in heavy congestion.

"These improvements by the County Council aim to reduce delays and queuing and will also upgrade the drainage system to minimise the risk of flooding between the two roundabouts."
