Yorkshire Water Replaces Key Sewer In Kippax

Construction News Image
Work on a sewer replacement project in West Yorkshire is now complete.

Up to £100,000 has been spent on the scheme in Kippax, which is part of Yorkshire Water's £3.8 billion investment programme between 2015 and 2020.

The risk of sewer flooding during heavy rain has now been significantly reduced by the project, which replaced a sewer in Birch Road and Valley Road. The new pipe is 150mm in diameter, replacing a much narrower pipe in a project which took two months to complete.

Work is now underway to replace another sewer to reduce the risk of pollution to Kippax Beck. Specialist equipment is being used to tunnel 70metres under a railway embankment to lay the new pipe underground.

The pipe, which has been removed as part of the project, was above ground and increased the potential risk of pollution to the beck, as well as being a safety hazard.

Recently, MP for Elmet and Rothwell Alec Shelbrooke paid a visit to the site to view the schemes.

Emily Brady from Yorkshire Water said: "It was great to show Alec the investment we've been making in Kippax. Both projects are really important to the local community and show our commitment to reduce flood risk and protect the local environment."
