Work to install a new sewer in Filey, North Yorkshire is now complete.
The £300,000 project was carried out by contractors Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) at Hunmanby Gap. Around 300 metres of new sewer has been laid to replace an old pipe prone to cracking at the rear of Gap Road.
Since January, MMB have been working to install the new pipe, along with relining other sewers in the area. Final work to decommission the old sewer is due to be completed over the next few weeks.
MMB will also carry out repairs to an outfall on the beach before reinstating all of the areas where they have worked back to their original condition.
The scheme is part of a £3.8 billion investment upgrade programme by Yorkshire Water.
Project manager Jonathan LeMoine said: "We have had to replace around 300 metres of sewer through often difficult terrain as part of our commitment to improve sewer networks across Yorkshire.
"Laying new pipes is both disruptive for local people and costly, so we’ve also taken the opportunity to refurbish some of the other sewer pipes in the area to prolong their life.
"This £300,000 project means the people of Hunmanby will have a more reliable sewer network for years to come and the risk of pollution is greatly reduced."
