A new £1 million helipad has been built at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool.

The development was designed by IBI Group and aims to improve the response times of emergency services in the north west of England and North Wales. Beforehand, air ambulances had to land on playing fields over half a mile away.

IBI Group Town Planner, Katy Barry, said: "The helipad is just a few metres away from Aintree Hospital's new Urgent Care and Trauma Centre which was also designed by IBI Group. The helipad's design takes into account the views of local residents, and its construction means that the region will receive a much more efficient emergency service."

Sharon Scott, Clinical Director for Major Trauma at Aintree, said: "Every minute counts with major trauma and it is vital that emergency patients receive treatment as soon as possible to increase their chances of survival and recovery."
