Construction News Image
More than 280 new homes are to be built in west London.

Jerram Falkus Construction, in partnership with developer Countryside, has started work to deliver 284 new houses, as well as a new five form entry primary school, on the former Hounslow Town Primary school site.

The 2.67-hectare site is being redeveloped to include the new school and homes, 50% of which will be 'affordable' housing.

The new primary school will be built first to enable the school to continue operating throughout the redevelopment process. New buildings will provide a supportive educational environment, with contemporary sports and play facilities. creation of school buildings will sit harmoniously within the residential setting, consisting 273 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and 11 four-bedroom houses. The pedestrian routes will be retained and improved to encourage residents to walk through the new open space to access the town centre.

The development is a result of the successful partnership between the London Borough of Hounslow and Countryside, which benefited from £6.2m Greater London Authority, Housing Zone Funding Grant.

Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, James Murray, said: "It is great to be working with Hounslow and its partners to build a new school alongside nearly 300 new homes, and I am pleased that together the Council and City Hall have been able to make sure half of the homes will be affordable to rent and buy."

Council Leader Steve Curran said: "We welcome the start of construction on site, marking the next chapter with our partners Countryside and Network Homes on this exciting project. This is the second housing development in the borough to offer 50 per cent affordable housing, and we look forward to the provision of much-needed good quality affordable homes, including shared ownership and affordable rent properties.

"With the need for more school places at an all-time high, we are also delighted that this project will also provide a brand new, state of the art, modern primary school that will expand the current school's services, with a further two classes per year group."

Graham Cherry, Chief Executive at Countryside Partnerships South, said: "We were delighted to be joined by the Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development at City Hall and Cllr Curran of Hounslow Council to officially mark the start of work at Hounslow Town Primary School site. The regeneration of the town centre has been a high priority for the Council and local residents for many years and we are delighted to work alongside them in delivering an exceptional scheme that will benefit the whole community."
