Morrison Utility Services (MUS) are to begin a water main replacement project in Yorkshire.

The contractor will replace a 560-metre section of mains along Burnby Lane in Pocklington. Over the last five years, the existing six inch pipe has burst 27 times.

The scheme forms part of a £3.8 billion investment programme for 2015 and 2020. Work will begin on Monday, 12 June.

To carry out the project safely, Burnby Lane will be closed between the junction of Percy Road and Wold Road for around six weeks. Diversions will be in place.

Project Manager, Jayne Blackburn, said: "Although we acknowledge this work may cause some inconvenience, it's important that we replace the water main to ensure we can continue to supply local customers and businesses in the area with high quality drinking water. We've liaised closely with the local highways department to try and minimise disruption and will complete the work as quickly as possible."
