Work Continues On £8.4m Mansfield Residential Scheme

Wates Residential is continuing work on a £8.4 million residential scheme in Nottinghamshire

The company is building 54 new homes on the site of the former General Hospital in Mansfield.

The scheme will offer 12 two-bedroom bungalows, 42 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments for residents with different requirements, from active older people to those with support and Extra Care needs.

As part of the development, Wates has created apprenticeships for unemployed local people, as well as inviting secondary school pupils on site to witness construction work. Work experience placements during the summer holidays are also being provided.

Recently, Wates completed a £3m project to build 17 bungalows in Flint Avenue, Forest Town.

Joanne Jamieson, Managing Director of Wates Residential, said: "We are very pleased to once again be partnering with Mansfield District Council following our successful collaboration at Flint Avenue, and to once again be making a valuable contribution to the town's economy.

"Throughout this latest project we are showing our commitment to providing added value to the local community through using local suppliers, providing employment opportunities and by demonstrating to young people the benefits of beginning a career in construction."

Mike Robinson, the council's Director of Economic Growth, added: "This is an exciting new development which will not only provide high-quality housing for older people, but it will also provide employment opportunities for local people and offer local students the chance to learn about a career in construction."
