Council To Spend £2m On Pothole Repairs In Rochdale

Construction News Image
Up to £2 million is to be spent this year on repairing potholes in Rochdale.

The council has approved plans to double its pothole repair fund from £1m, bringing the total spend on the region's highways over the year to £4.2m.

A further £2.2m capital investment programme will help pay for major resurfacing schemes on Road in Middleton, which will start later in spring, and Halifax Road from Townhead junction to Entwisle Road, which is expected to be repaired this summer.

Work is due to begin on site in the next few weeks, with other works including bridge and wall repairs, gully cleaning and improved drainage and reconstructing damaged paths.

Cllr Neil Emmott said: "Last year's £1 million pothole fund enabled us to fix 40,000 square metres of road across 232 streets, making a huge difference for our residents.

"We've taken the bold step of doubling this fund for 2017/18, so we can build on this success and make an even bigger impact this time round."
