Construction News Image
Work has started on three A64 road improvement schemes in North Yorkshire.

The projects will benefit around 11,000 drivers who use this route between York and Scarborough.

Features include; a smoother road surface, better footpaths, new road markings and drainage, and a renewed safety barrier.

Work will be carried out:

• Between 8pm and 6am on weeknights and between 8pm and 10am at the weekends between Collinsons Lane and Rillington crossroads until the end of March.

• For three weeks between 8pm – 6am, and between Hopgrove - Stockton from Monday, 27 March.

• From 8pm – 6am between Scotchman Lane and the start of the dual-carriageway at Whitwell from late March/early April to end of April.

As part of the schemes, overnight closures, clearly signed diversions and some temporary traffic lights will be in place.

Highways England project manager Adeeb Saeed said: "Our improvements along the A64 over the next few months mean people have better and safer better journeys on this important road between York and Scarborough.

"We're carrying out the work overnight when there is least traffic so disruption is kept to a minimum for drivers and residents."

The improvements will be completed by the end of April.
