Clugston Chosen To Build New BMW Vehicle Storage Centre

Construction News Image
Clugston Construction has been selected to build a new multi-million pound vehicle storage and distribution centre in Immingham.

The 6,000m2 facility is being delivered for The Able Group and work is scheduled to start on 06 March.

The 30-week project will see Clugston work alongside architect Howarth Litchfield to build the new centre on the South Bank of the Humber.

The PDI unit (pre-inspection/pre-delivery) will be used by BMW UK Limited. Several thousand vehicles will pass through each year to be prepared, cleaned and inspected before transportation to retailers throughout the country.

The building involves a foundation, portal frame steel structure and external cladding will also involve construction of a new reception area at ground floor and offices and support accommodation on a mezzanine floor.

M&E systems will be installed to supply services throughout the building which will necessitate the design and build team working closely with the Able Group's nominated suppliers to accommodate the specialist vehicle washing and preparation equipment.

Neil Turner, Director at Howarth Litchfield, said: "We were very pleased to secure this appointment and hope that it marks the start of a longer term relationship for Howarth Litchfield at this site where the Able Group has exciting and ambitious development plans.

"We enjoy continued success in the commercial, industrial and automotive sectors, where we have sound experience of designing and building the kind of large portal frame steel structure required for this project and will be liaising closely with all our project partners to ensure that we meet the design and delivery criteria of both BMW and Able as we seek to develop an elegant building design solution."

Clugston's managing director Steve Radcliffe added: "Due to the project's proximity to our Head Office in Scunthorpe and our 80-year association with the region, Clugston Construction will endeavour to use its established local supply chain wherever possible.

"We are looking forward to working with Able and Howarth Litchfield and through collaboration and teamwork we will seek to minimise the impact of our construction activities on the ongoing site operations."
