BAM has been selected to deliver a new £18 million care unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Wales.

Preparatory work on the Sub-Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre is already underway, which will result in a new unit to care for very sick and premature babies.

The Welsh Government is providing £1.4m towards the scheme, which will include upgrades to electrical infrastructure at the site of the SuRNICC and an additional transport incubator for transferring the most critically ill and unstable babies.

Announcing the funding today, 02 February, Welsh Health Secretary Vaughan Gething said: "It's good news that work is underway. I look forward to the completion of the SuRNICC which will provide the best possible standards of care and clinical outcomes for mothers and their babies across North Wales."

BAM's Rob Bailey said: "We've been working with the Health Board for some time to develop the business case for the new neo natal facilities. I'm delighted that funding is now secured and the scheme can be delivered. I'm very fortunate to be working with a client that has such an incredible life changing impact for people in North Wales."

Mandy Cooke, Neonatal Service Manager, added: "It's great that funding for the project has been formally approved and that construction work can now get underway without delay."
