Morgan Sindall has been selected to deliver a primary school expansion project in Great Yarmouth.

The contractor will build a new £2.9 million stand-alone building alongside Northgate Primary School, with completion scheduled in time for the new academic school year in 2017.

Work on the development is already underway, which includes six classrooms, an assembly hall and toilet facilities. The building will also be partially powered by photovoltaic solar panels.

The 45-week scheme also includes remodelling the interior of the existing school as well as minor demolition works. A range of external landscaping projects will also be delivered, such as the relocation of a large pond on the school grounds.

Gavin Napper, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: "We're very pleased to have been appointed to this important scheme which will provide pupils, teachers and parents with a brand new, functional building that will give the school's team the space and facilities they need to continue delivering a modern curriculum in a pleasant environment.

"The project team is arranging regular site visits so the children can watch their new school building begin to take shape and providing ongoing updates so pupils and staff are fully aware of the work taking place on-site."

Morgan Sindall is currently delivering a number of projects for the council, including the construction of Chapel Green School, a special educational needs school in Attleborough, and the expansion of Queen's Hill Primary and Nursery School in Norwich.
