New figures have revealed output in the construction industry fell by 0.2% in November 2016.

The latest Office for National Statistics report states output declined largely due to a contraction in non-housing repair and maintenance.

However, total all work was up 1.6%, with new work rising 4.3%. Public housing rose 8.2% and private housing 12.6%. Infrastructure work fell by 6.1%.

Elsewhere, total repair and maintenance (R&M) work fell by 3.2%, with R&M work in public housing and private housing falling 12.3% and 0.6% respectively.

Shraga Stern, Director of Decorean, said: "The figures show very little difference from a year ago, and after 12 months of political, and sometimes, economic turmoil, this shows that house building is as important as ever.

"Encouragingly, the fact that new work in November increased, with new housing output continuing to grow, bodes well for 2017, and is something we, at Decorean, are continuing to see day to day."
