Plans have been submitted for a new footbridge in Lincoln city centre.

The structure will be located at Brayford Wharf East level crossing and forms part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan.

If approved, features include a permanent stepped access over the railway so that pedestrians no longer have to stand and wait at the barriers..

Once permission is granted, Network Rail will start the tendering process to find a construction firm to build the bridge. Timescales for when construction will begin will be confirmed once a contractor is in place.

Stephen Hind, route enhancements manager for Network Rail, said: "I am delighted that after lots of work behind the scenes we are able to submit our proposals for the bridge at Brayford Wharf to the planning authority. With the bridge at High Street now open we are fulfilling our long-standing commitment to the people of Lincoln to make their railway crossings safer."
