Highways England contractors have completed a £2 million carriageway upgrade scheme in North Yorkshire.

A two-mile section of the A64 route at Rillington has undergone a series of improvements, including 6,400 tonnes of resurfacing and 800 reflective road studs replaced.

In addition, the project has been completed a week early.

Highways England project manager Adeeb Saeed said: "Over the last 2 weekends we have used 6,400 tonnes of resurfacing, the same weight of 534 double decker buses. Last weekend alone our contractors removed and replaced 4,150 tonnes of surfacing material, the largest amount we have laid in a weekend shift in Yorkshire to date.

"Thanks to their hard work it has meant that the impact on drivers has been significantly reduced and we have been able to lift the weekend closures earlier than expected."
