Highways England Boosts M62 Junction Upgrade With £3m

Construction News Image
Highways England has allocated £3 million towards a major M62 junction improvement scheme in Warrington.

The £12m development next to junction 8 will help deliver over 1,400 homes and 10,000 new jobs.

Overall, the project will improve access from the motorway to the £1 billion, 575-acre Omega development site in Warrington.

The £3m fund is being allocated from the government's new £100m Growth and Housing Fund.

It is expected construction on the scheme will start in January 2017, with completion scheduled for late spring 2018.

In addition, £5m is being invested to help start a £23m junction upgrade scheme on the A1 in Lincolnshire, south of Grantham.

Ian Parsons, Growth and Economic Development Team Leader, said: "Highways England is proud to support new homes and jobs by investing in its road network, building additional capacity to support significant development.

"It is very good news that new homes and jobs are planned in Warrington. The improvements we are announcing today will ensure that people who live and work in Warrington will benefit from an improved road network and smoother, safer journeys."
