Over 300 New Homes To Be Built In Cardiff

Plans have been approved for over 300 new homes to be developed in Cardiff.

The schemes, which are spread across five sites and are to be delivered by Wates Residential, will form part of the council's major housing programme to deliver 1,500 homes across 40 sites.

Planned projects include 192 homes at Willowbrook West in St Mellons, eight homes in Old St Mellons, 31 homes in Llanrumney and 16 homes in Llanishen.

The fifth site is located at Braunton Crescent and Clevedon Road in Llanrumney. It will see over 100 new homes created and work is scheduled to begin in February 2017.

The approvals mark the first milestone in the 'Cardiff Living' partnership, following Wates' appointment as the council's development partner in January last year.

The ten-year initiative is designed to tackle growing demand for 'affordable' housing in the city. Further plans include building 600 new council homes for rent and assisted home ownership.

Joanne Jamieson, Managing Director, Wates Residential, said: "It is evident that there is an increased local need for housing in Cardiff and the council's ambitious plans will significantly help to address this urgent demand. Securing planning approval for the first five Cardiff Living sites will enable us to kick-start the council's regeneration strategy to invest in the city's housing stock and create high-quality, energy efficient homes for the local community.

"The scale of investment being made in Cardiff is also a vital opportunity to bring positive benefit for the community, and with planning approval now achieved, we are focussed on putting into action our joint commitment with the council to train and employ local people."
