Demolition Work Begins On £39m Liverpool Lime Street Regeneration

Demolition work has started work on a £39 million regeneration project in Liverpool.

A number of vacant retail units are being levelled on Lime Street to make way for a major mixed-use development.

ISG has been selected for the regeneration scheme, which will comprise five retail units at ground floor level and a 10-storey, 412 bed student accommodation block, totalling approximately 28,000 sq ft. In addition, a three-storey Premier Inn hotel with 101 guest rooms will be built.

Partners behind the project, located adjacent to Lime Street Station, includes Neptune, Liverpool City Council and Sigma Capital, with Neptune delivering the project on behalf of site owner Curlew Student Trust.

The steel frame structure will be clad with composite insulated panels and finished with perforated aluminium, similar to those used at Liverpool's RIBA Stirling Prize winning Everyman Theatre.

ISG has been selected for the construction and fit out of the student accommodation and Premier Inn hotel. The project also includes minor road alterations and public realm upgrades.

Andy McLinden, regional managing director of ISG's Northern England and Scotland construction business, said: "The Lime Street area of Liverpool has been in desperate need of a catalyst scheme to revitalise this key thoroughfare near the centre of the city. This mixed-use scheme represents the first phase of the Knowledge Quarter master plan and is a hugely important regional project that will transform and enhance the character and aspiration of this key gateway into the city."
