Skanska has won a £60 million contract to deliver a new healthcare research facility in London.

The scheme forms the third phase of London's Great Ormond Street Hospital redevelopment. Work is due to begin in January next year.

The new Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Diseases in Children will support the Hospital's plans to come up with new treatments and cures for children with rare diseases.

Overall, Skanska will be responsible for the design, construction and mechanical and electrical fit-out of the facility.

The contractor is already delivering the Hospital's second phase of redevelopment; the Premier Inn Clinical Building, which will complete the Mittal Children's Medical Centre.

The research facility is scheduled to be completed in late 2018.
