A Labour MP has raised concerns over industrial relations surrounding the Crossrail project in London.

MP for Jarrow, Stephen Hepburn, has stated there are a number of issues surrounding the infrastructure scheme, such as blacklisting, breaches of data protection, and physical intimidation by a lorry driver threatening to run over Ucatt officials.

He has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) calling on main contractor Costain-ATC to address the controversies.

Ucatt claims workers have been subjected to "substandard welfare facilities", such as having to walk miles to a toilet and being required to work "until physically and mentally exhausted".

The union's London and South East Regional Secretary, Jerry Swain, said: "We welcome Stephen Hepburn's intervention and we call on all MPs – of whatever party – to support this EDM for an investigation. Crossrail is a high-profile, nationally important, infrastructure project, which should be an exemplar of worker conditions and industrial relations."
