Morgan Sindall has been selected to carry out a multi-million pound expansion project at Crawley Hospital in West Sussex.
The contractor will re-model and develop two essential clinical units at the Hospital, which are scheduled for completion by early 2017.
The £5m re-model of the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) will help treat patients with illness and injuries that are not life threatening. In addition, a six-bed Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU) will also be provided, with an improved treatment and waiting area for children.
Works also include refurbishing a vacant space on the sixth-floor of the red wing to create a £3m Sub-Acute Ward. The facility will cater for 26 patients in a modern ward for rehabilitation and treatment. The scheme will also see Morgan Sindall cut through the existing building and install a special skylight, which will fill the new ward with natural daylight. The new ward will be completed in December 2016.
Further work includes installing new fire prevention systems throughout the red wing as well as mechanical fire doors and a new ventilation system.
Julien Jones, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: "We're enormously proud to be part of the transformation of Crawley Hospital. The improved UCC will be hugely beneficial to patients, creating a larger local provision for people seeking urgent medical treatment.
"The expansion has been designed with the utmost attention to detail and patients will experience a bright and spacious welcoming environment with an increased level of privacy as well as capacity.
"Morgan Sindall is well versed in delivering projects of this nature and we're looking forward to completing both essential clinical units by early 2017."
