VolkerHighways has secured a £45 million roads maintenance contract in Medway.

The five-year deal will continue the contractors current agreement with Medway Council, which has been in place since 2007.

The new contract, which has a possible extension of up to five years, will begin on 01 August 2017.

Features include both planned and responsive maintenance, including carriageway and footway resurfacing, winter maintenance, drainage cleansing and road markings. VolkerHighways will also carry out work to Medway's street lighting, as well as capital schemes to improve and enhance the council's existing network. Maintenance and inspections will also be carried out in the Medway Tunnel, which accommodates around 40,000 vehicle journeys each day.

Alistair Thompson, Managing Director of VolkerHighways said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this contract which continues our relationship with Medway Council for the next five, and hopefully ten years. This provides a continuity of highway maintenance service to the residents and road users of Medway. We also look forward to strengthening our existing relationships across the council's various communities."
