Nottinghamshire-based firm Robert Woodhead is continuing work on a £2.2 million redevelopment project in Lincoln.

The contractor is building an extension to Constance Stewart Hall at Bishop Grosseteste University, with work now complete to erect the steel frame.

Designed by Lincoln-based architecture firm LK2, the project will see the University benefit from contemporary accommodation and flexible teaching spaces complementing the unique art deco design of the original building.

The first phase of the redevelopment was completed last year by Robert Woodhead and phase two is currently being built over the next 12 months.

The project, which is being delivered as part of the East Midlands Property Alliance (EMPA), is expected to be completed by summer 2017.

Construction director for Robert Woodhead, Steve Gribby, said: "We're really pleased with the way our latest phase of works is progressing at Bishop Grosseteste University. This is a real milestone in the build and helps us start to see what the building will look like once it's finished. It's been great to work with a local Lincolnshire steel company, knowing we're giving something back to the local economy."

Stephen Deville, director of resources at Bishop Grosseteste University, said: "The new teaching spaces being created as part of this extensive redevelopment will give both staff and students state of the art facilities to work in; while also giving a new lease of life to an iconic building in Lincoln city centre.

"We're proud to be supporting a local Lincolnshire company for the buildings steelworks, which is situated in such a prominent position on the campus."
