Construction News Image
Associated British Ports (ABP) has awarded Morgan Sindall a £24 million project to expand facilities at the Port of Southampton.

The two contracts will see car storage and handling facilities redeveloped as part of a £50m investment programme by ABP.

The overall scheme will see Morgan Sindall build two multi-level storage facilities at Southampton's Eastern and Western Docks, Deck 6 and Deck 7, which will provide 8,669 additional car parking spaces for the port.

Deck 6 will be a 2.5-acre facility spread over five levels, while Deck 7 will become the largest car storage facility on the port (3.98 acres spread over five levels).

Andy Duff, Managing Director at Morgan Sindall in the south, said: "Morgan Sindall is delighted to have been appointed to this significant scheme, following our team's successful delivery of the first phase of ABP's Southampton Port expansion project last year.

"ABP's investment and wider development of the port will create a world-class facility and further boost Southampton's standing as the UK's number one vehicle handling port. We're pleased and proud to be working alongside ABP to expand and upgrade this key international trade gateway."

The contractor was previously appointed to deliver a £8.3m extension at the port, which was completed in 2015.
