Olympic Stadium Chairman Resigns Amid Conversion Costs Row

The Chairman of the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), David Edmonds, has resigned amid a row over financial costs relating to the multi-million pound conversion of the Olympic Stadium.

Mr Edmonds, who originally joined the board of the Olympic Park Legacy Company in 2010, offered his resignation to London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Wednesday, 02 November.

The Mayor has ordered an investigation into the project after it was revealed the cost of turning the stadium into a new home for West Ham United has jumped from £272 million to £323m.

The overall cost of the scheme now stands at over £750m, all of which has been met by the taxpayer, bar a £15m contribution from West Ham.

David Goldstone, Chief Executive of the LLDC, said: "David has made an enormous contribution to the legacy of the London 2012 Games and he has helped to steer the organisation through some extremely challenging issues. We thank him for all his hard work and wish him well in the future."
