Work To Begin On Skegness Transport Improvement Projects

Construction News Image
Work is to begin on two transport improvement schemes next week in Skegness, Lincolnshire.

The council is currently underway with the £5.7 million Go Skegness project, which aims to alleviate congestion and develop sustainable measures of transport in the town.

The development was made possible due to £4m of funding secured by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP from the Government's Single Local Growth Fund.

As part of the multi-million pound scheme, work will begin on extending a lay-by at the Roman Bank bus stop in Ingoldmells on Tuesday, 01 November. The changes will mean two buses will be able to use the lay-by at the same time, helping alleviate congestion.

In addition, further worke will begin on Friday, 07 November to redevelop two existing sections of bus lane into an upgraded shared cycleway/footway.

Cllr Richard Davies said: "During the summer months traffic increases significantly along the coast and it's clear that something needs to be done to alleviate congestion and make public transport more attractive.

"One of the major benefits of these particular improvements will be the new cycleway between Butlins and Skegness, which will also pass many other attractions.

"Not only will this encourage people to choose a greener, cleaner form of transport, but it should also help boost the coastal economy by unlocking potential growth opportunities."

The improvements are expected to be completed by March 2017.
