Wates has completed a major milestone on a £5.7 million primary school project in Nottingham.
The contractor has entered the final stages of its Bluecoat Academy Primary School scheme in Bilborough. The new building is due to open in January next year.
The project is being undertaken for Nottingham City Council and will see a new 420-place academy featuring 15 classrooms, a hall, a playground, break-out areas, a specialist unit for children with autism and a 26-place nursery.
To mark the milestone, teachers and students were invited to paint the first brush strokes on the internal walls and were given a preview tour of the new build to see how the school was taking shape.
John Carlin, Business Unit Director at Wates, said: "The ceremony at Bluecoat Academy enabled us to showcase the fantastic progress that the team has made since building work began in February. It is vital to involve the children in the delivery of this exceptional project, giving them the opportunity to see their school taking shape. It was a great way to build their excitement as we enter the final stages of the build ahead of the school opening in January next year."
