Construction News Image
Work is to begin on a £1.3 million road junction improvement project in Liverpool.

The council will start upgrading the city centre Islington (A580)/St Anne Street junction later today, 12 October. Works include road resurfacing, upgrading the traffic lights and improving street lighting.

The project is part of the council's £250m Better Roads programme to improve the city's road infrastructure. Other key schemes include building a new £10m bridge on the A565 as well as a £22m widening scheme.

Major works on the scheme will be carried out between 7pm - 6am, with off-peak lane restrictions each day from 9.30am – 3.30pm. The scheme is scheduled for completion by the end of January 2017.

Commenting on the £22m A565 dualling scheme, Cllr Malcom Kennedy said: "Making the A565 a full dual carriageway is going to make travelling to and from north Liverpool a much more pleasurable experience for millions of journeys every year.

"I'm especially excited by the fact that this scheme will give Regent Road a completely new lease of life and will further accelerate the regeneration in our Atlantic corridor – which is vital to the future economy of Liverpool, the city region and the north of England."
