Work is underway on a £130,000 electricity network upgrade project in Surrey.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is carrying out the improvements near Chiddingfold this week to improve the resilience of the local areas network and to minimise the risk of power cuts.

Features include an extensive tree-cutting programme as well as installing new equipment along 8.5km of overhead lines.

SSEN's Head of Customer Operations, Chris Slingsby, said: "We are committed to doing everything we can to keep the lights on for our customers, and prevent power cuts. With this project we’ll be ensuring the lines which bring electricity to the communities around Chiddingfold are kept free from trees which, during storms and extreme weather, can sometimes blow into our lines and cause the power to go off. We will also be installing new protection equipment and carrying out maintenance on our network at the same time."
