Local Contractors Benefit From £17m Worth Of Council Projects

North Lincolnshire-based contractors have benefited from £17 million worth of local authority projects over the past year.

As part of its nationally recognised procurement framework, the council has invested £36m in construction and highways schemes throughout the region since 2015.

A number of projects have benefited from the framework, including road maintenance schemes, school improvements and building essential community facilities.

As part the initiative, contractors are expected to consider and provide opportunities for the local community. G S Kelsey has so far taken on two apprentices from North Lindsey College, while Clugston Construction have created a graduate engineer scheme allowing students to work on council sites.

With the latest figures for completed projects showing contractors have improved their performance since last year, Councillor Richard Hannigan said the framework allows the council to monitor the performance of projects on a yearly basis "to ensure they deliver value for money and that improvements are being made".

"This is taxpayers' money; therefore it is vital it is spent wisely for the benefit of North Lincolnshire," he said.

"A condition of the framework is that contractors provide opportunities within the local community for the economic and social value benefits of North Lincolnshire.

"So far we have seen some brilliant achievements from contractors and we hope to see more in the future."
